Best of 2005

Well, after criticizing other best of lists for the year, I will give what I consider to be some of the best movies of the year. I’m not going to rank them, just list a few films that I think stood above the rest.

Cinderella Man

Did this movie just come out at the wrong time? Or did it make as much as it should have?

For me, seeing this movie make about $50 or million seems right. People may have overshot themselves when they thought that putting Russell Crowe into this film would bring them Gladiator numbers.

This was a great film, an Oscar caliber film, don’t cry about the money. It didn’t make too little, you spent too much.

Munich

A great movie. But make no mistake, this is no Schindler’s List. It is not the “important” movie people are making it out to be. It is just a very good movie, very nicely acted.

This is the movie that will make Eric Bana a more household name and made me excited for the next James Bond film.

Capote

Phillip Seymour Hoffman who has been tremendous in other films in the past few years may finally get the recognition he deserves from this film. He was great and so was the film.

Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith

If you don’t like Star Wars you will disagree with me, if you do I don’t even have to explain.

Syriana

There was alot going on here and you really need to pay attention or you could find yourself lost. But if you give yourself a few hours to take this movie in, you won’t regret it.

Wedding Crashers

Yeah, this movie seems to stand out here. Funniest movie of the year, bar none.

King Kong

Amazing film, and a big film, yet I found it more entertaining when watched alone, than with a large crowd. Made the film more personal, and I think it’s much more enjoyable that way.

History of Violence

Shocking. That’s how I would describe it. In it’s portrayal of violence and sex. Not candy coated in anyway what so ever.

Pride and Prejudice

The first version of this that I have ever seen, and I loved it.
